What's the deal with Penn State's main campus?

I'm starting to look into Penn State, and I'm a bit confused about the main campus. Can anyone explain what University Park is like and if it's the most popular choice for students?

University Park, often referred to as Penn State's "main campus," is the largest and oldest of Penn State's campuses. It's located in State College, Pennsylvania, which is a vibrant college town with a diverse array of restaurants, shops, and cultural activities. With over 40,000 undergraduate students, it's by far the most popular choice among Penn State applicants.

The campus itself is particularly noted for its beautiful architecture, spacious green spaces, and excellent facilities, including enhanced classrooms, research facilities, and a large library system. The on-campus housing accommodates first-year students and some upperclassmen, with other students living in off-campus housing in and around State College.

University Park is home to Penn State's Division I athletics, which makes for an energetic, spirited campus culture, especially during football season. The educational opportunities are vast as well, with over 160 majors to choose from, high-profile research opportunities, and robust study abroad programs.

It's also worth noting that because University Park is the main campus, it tends to attract a more diverse cross-section of students compared to Penn State's regional campuses. Here, you'll find students from all 50 states and numerous countries, which can contribute to a rich, diverse college experience.

Choosing a campus depends on what you're looking for in your college experience. If you prefer smaller class sizes and more intimate environments, one of Penn State's regional campuses might be an appealing choice. However, if you're seeking a traditional college experience with a wide variety of opportunities and a dynamic student life, University Park might be the right fit. It's always a great idea to visit the campus if you can, to get a true feel for the atmosphere and see if it aligns with what you're seeking in your college experience.
