Can I Get a Tech Job Right Out of High School?

I'm really into tech but not planning to attend college. I want to dive into the workforce directly after high school. What kind of tech jobs could I realistically pursue with just a diploma?

Diving straight into the tech industry after high school is certainly possible, particularly with the rise of alternative education paths, bootcamps, and certification programs that provide hands-on skilled training.

1. IT Support/Help Desk: In this role, you'd be responsible for troubleshooting and problem solving for any tech issues that arise within a specific company. A CompTIA A+ certification can help bolster your chances while applying for these positions.

2. Web Development: Becoming a web developer is another option that doesn't necessarily require a college degree. Instead, proficiency in coding languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and others are more important. Coding bootcamps or online courses can help you gain these skills.

3. QA Tester: Quality Assurance (QA) testers are a vital part of the software development process, ensuring that the final product is of high standard and free of bugs. Knowledge of coding is often beneficial, but may not always be required.

4. Network Technician: This role involves the installation and maintenance of network elements. Certifications such as CompTIA Network+ or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) would be useful in this regard.

Remember: while having a college degree can be beneficial, many companies are now prioritizing skills and experience over formal education. Building a portfolio and gaining as much practical experience as possible will be key to landing a tech job directly out of high school.
