How competitive are Southern Oregon University admissions?

I'm a junior thinking about applying to Southern Oregon University, but I'm not sure about how competitive their admissions process is. Does anyone know what kind of GPA or test scores they might expect?

Southern Oregon University (SOU) is generally considered moderately competitive. This means that while they do evaluate your academic records, they don't have extremely high cutoffs that are comparable to selective institutions.

Looking at their recent class profiles, most admitted students have GPAs between 3.18 on a 4.0 scale. As for test scores, since the move to test-optional admissions due to COVID-19, they don't strictly require submitting SAT or ACT scores for consideration.

However, if you choose to submit scores, a range of scores for admitted students in the past has been between 990-1200 for the SAT and a composite score of 18-25 on the ACT. Remember, these are broad ranges and being within them does not guarantee admission, just as being outside of them would not automatically disqualify a candidate.

SOU also considers other factors that contribute to a holistic review process in addition to your academic profile, such as your extracurricular involvements, personal essays, and potential interviews or letters of recommendation. It's about showing them you are prepared for their academic rigor and will contribute positively to the university community!

Please note that it's always important to fulfill their minimum course requirements for high school. It may also be beneficial to exceed those minimums to demonstrate that you are academically prepared and competitive. Good luck!
