What government jobs are available with just a high school diploma?

I'm finishing high school soon and considering government jobs that don't require a college degree. What are some positions or departments that offer opportunities straight out of high school? Would love to hear about any personal experiences too!

While a considerable number of government jobs do require a degree, there are several opportunities available for high school graduates. Here are a few government fields you might consider:

1. Law enforcement: Many police departments only require a high school diploma or equivalent to apply, alongside a civil service examination. The FBI has support positions, e.g., administrative, operational support, and service roles. Military police roles are also available within various branches of the military.

2. Postal Service: The United States Postal Service offers a multitude of positions that do not require beyond a high school education, including mail carriers and postal service clerks.

3. Transportation Security Administration (TSA): TSA professionals provide security for travelers across the country. Positions like Transportation Security Officers only require a high school diploma.

4. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA): FEMA often hires high school graduates for roles such as Emergency Management Specialists or Logistical roles.

5. National Parks Service: Positions involve maintenance, operations, and customer service in national parks.

6. U.S. Armed Forces: The U.S. military offers opportunities across a wide array of interests and fields. This could lead to further training and education.

7. Customs and Border Protection: Jobs here include but are not limited to Border Patrol Agents and CBP Officers.

Remember, while these roles may only require a high school diploma for entry-level positions, further advancement might require additional training or education. Furthermore, these jobs will likely have additional requirements beyond just academic qualifications, such as physical fitness tests, age restrictions, and security clearances. Be sure to carefully research each role to understand the pathway and what will be expected.
