How can I find federal summer paid jobs for high schoolers?

I'm a high school junior looking for ways to earn some money and gain experience over the summer. Does anyone know how to find federal jobs or programs that pay high school students during the summer months?

The Federal government offers various opportunities for high school students to gain work experience during the summer. Here are a few options to consider:

1. USA Jobs Pathways Program: This program is designed to offer students and recent graduates paid federal internships, which can lead to permanent jobs upon graduation. Internships are listed on the USA Jobs website and it's a good idea to monitor the site regularly as new opportunities are posted frequently.

2. Student Volunteer Service: While technically not a paid position, volunteering in federal agencies can offer phenomenal work experience which can be invaluable on a resume. Student volunteers are exposed to the federal work environment and learn about the missions and responsibilities of various federal agencies and departments.

3. U.S. Department of State’s U.S. Foreign Service: Although competitive, the U.S. Department of State offers unpaid internships that provide valuable work experiences related to foreign affairs. Assignments can be in Washington D.C. or in one of the many foreign service posts located around the world.

4. The Federal Reserve Bank: The Federal Reserve Bank offers a High School Summer Internship Program which is a comprehensive, project-oriented work experience for high school seniors. Opportunities vary by location.

In your search, be sure to use 'high school student' as a keyword to find opportunities geared towards your education level. It's important to start the process early because many of these programs have application periods that close well before the summer. Plus, the application processes can sometimes be lengthy, requiring security clearances, background checks, and/or drug tests.

Remember, persistence and a proactive attitude go a long way in securing these opportunities. Best of luck!
