How is UC Merced ranked overall?

I've heard about UC Merced but I'm not sure about its rankings. Does it have a good reputation nationally or within California? I'm trying to weigh my options and see if it might be a fit for me.

UC Merced is a relatively new addition to the UC system, opening its doors in 2005. Its rankings can offer some insights into its academic reputation.

In the 2024 U.S. News & World Report school rankings, UC Merced ranked #58 in National Universities and #26 in Top Public Schools. These rankings indicate that though it may not yet be as renowned as more established institutions, it is gaining recognition.

However, remember that university rankings are only one component of a school's overall reputation and the quality of its programs. It's equally important to consider elements such as faculty, programs of interest, student success rate, internship opportunities, campus culture, and so on. For example, UC Merced is known for its strong support for research, small class sizes, and commitment to diversity and sustainability.

To determine whether it might be a good fit for you, it can be helpful to visit the campus, talk to current students or faculty, and take a closer look at the programs that interest you. After evaluating all these factors, you'll have a more comprehensive picture of whether UC Merced aligns with your educational and career objectives.
