Good jobs for when you get out of high school?

I'm aiming to start working right after graduation instead of going to college immediately. What are some jobs that are good for recent high school graduates? Any tips on landing one would be helpful!

Absolutely, not every career pathway requires you to head straight into a four-year university degree. Some in-demand sectors offer roles that can grow into careers with experience, vocational training, or apprenticeships.

One sector is trade skills like electricians, plumbers, or HVAC technicians. There are sound apprenticeship programs that enable you to earn while you learn the profession, and they can be lucrative in the long term. Similarly, roles in construction or manufacturing might be worth considering. These industries often provide training and offer the opportunity for career progression.

Another one is the tech industry—positions like helpdesk support, quality assurance testers, etc. With some tech-savviness and possibly a coding bootcamp or specific certifications under your belt, these are attainable positions with room for advancement.

Lastly, you may be interested in customer service roles, such as retail sales or food service. These jobs can offer flexibility, the opportunity to interact with a variety of people, and potential for promotion to management roles over time.

To land one of these roles, tailor your resume to highlight any relevant skills or experiences you have. This could include soft skills like communication, teamwork, or problem-solving, or specific technical skills. In your cover letter, express why you're interested in that field and emphasize your eagerness to learn and grow within the role. It's also beneficial to leverage any networking connections you might have that could lead to job opportunities.

No matter which route you choose, remember that there's no one-size-fits-all when it comes to careers—what's most important is finding something that aligns with your interests and long-term goals. Good luck!
