NYC colleges with dorm options?

I'm thinking about applying to colleges in New York City, but the idea of living off-campus freaks me out. Do any NYC universities have good, affordable dorm options for freshmen? Proximity to campus and safety are big concerns for me.

There are indeed several universities in New York City that offer dormitory housing. Here are a few:

1. New York University (NYU): NYU offers on-campus housing for first-year students. The university has multiple residence halls throughout the city, most of which are relatively close to NYU's main campus around Washington Square Park. NYU’s housing is generally considered safe and secure, with a 24-hour security team and periodic safety drills. The cost of on-campus housing can vary, but keep in mind that NYU’s financial aid packages often include cost estimates for housing.

2. Columbia University: Columbia guarantees housing to first-year students. Dormitories are situated within or close to the main campus in the Morningside Heights neighborhood, which is generally safe and has readily available transportation.

3. Fordham University: Fordham offers housing at both of its NYC campuses—Lincoln Center and Rose Hill. Most first-year students live in traditional-style residence halls, but suite-style accommodations are also available. Fordham's campuses are generally safe, and they offer a 24-hour security service.

4. Pace University: Pace guarantees housing to all first-year students. Most first-year students live in the Maria’s Tower, which is located on the main campus in Lower Manhattan.

5. Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT): FIT offers housing for students in their on-campus residence halls. The housing costs at FIT are generally lower compared to other NYC universities due to FIT’s public status.

Be sure to check the specific housing situation at the colleges you're considering, as availability, cost, and room type can vary based on the university. It's always a good idea to look at the total cost of attendance, including room and board, when considering affordability. Remember, you can also get a sense of the safety of the campus and surrounding area by checking the university's Annual Security Report, which should be posted on their website. And don’t forget to consider proximity to public transportation, as this can significantly impact your college experience in a city like New York.
