How is the application process for Gettysburg College?

I'm considering applying to Gettysburg College and I was wondering what their application process is like. Are there any specific things I should know or focus on to strengthen my application?

You're on the right track getting ahead of the application process for Gettysburg College. The process consists of submitting the Common Application along with the Gettysburg College Member Questions.

For the 2024-2025 application cycle, Gettysburg College is test-optional. That means if you feel that your SAT or ACT scores don't represent your academic capability, you can choose not to submit them. It's essential to weigh this choice carefully. If your scores are above the school's average ranges or if they're particularly strong compared to your grades, it might be beneficial to include them.

The application also requires a Secondary School Report which includes a counselor recommendation and official transcript. Gettysburg College also encourages applicants to submit a Teacher Recommendation though it's not mandated. Choose a teacher who knows you well and can speak to your strengths in the classroom.

Additionally, the Gettysburg College Member Questions on the Common App include a few optional short answer questions. While these are not required, it's a good idea to use every opportunity you can to provide more depth about who you are beyond your academic and extracurricular accomplishments. One of the questions asks about a community with which you identify. This is an excellent place to showcase more about your personal identity and how it's informed your experiences.

Finally, while not a requirement, it can be beneficial to visit the campus or participate in one of Gettysburg's online information sessions. This is recommended as Gettysburg College does consider demonstrated interest in their application process.

Lastly, make sure to pay attention to deadlines. The Early Decision I deadline is November 15, the Early Decision II and Regular Decision deadline is January 15.

Best of luck with your application! Remember that the process is not just about demonstrating your fit for the school but also about learning whether the school is a right fit for you.
