High-paying entry-level jobs with just a high school diploma?

I'm a high school junior thinking about my future. What are some entry-level jobs that pay well and don't require a college degree? I want to start planning now to ensure I can earn a good income.

Absolutely, it's important to consider all possible paths after high school! Here are a few high-paying jobs you could consider that don't necessarily require higher education:

1. Air Traffic Controller: While this role requires specialized training from the Federal Aviation Administration, it doesn't require a college degree. This is a high-stakes job, with the responsibility of managing the safe takeoff and landing of airplanes, but it pays well.

2. Power Plant Operators: These professionals control the systems that generate and distribute electric power. While some roles require a degree, many get into the field with a high school education and then receive long-term on-the-job training.

3. Construction and Building Inspector: These individuals inspect buildings, highways, and streets, with a focus on ensuring compliance with local, state, and national building codes. It usually requires a good knowledge of the building industry and some states might require certification.

4. Power Line Installers and Repairers: These workers install and repair power lines that provide electricity to residential and business areas. Going into this profession will require some technical and safety training.

5. Police and Detectives: Depending on your district, becoming a police officer generally doesn't require more than a high school diploma, but it will require academy training. Working as a detective or investigator can also be highly rewarding.

6. Commercial Pilot: If you have an interest in aviation, you may want to consider becoming a commercial pilot. Many regional airlines only require a high school diploma along with the requisite flight experience.

7. Elevator Installers and Repairers: This job involves installing, repairing, and maintaining elevators, escalators, moving sidewalks, and similar equipment. While it does require an apprenticeship, a college degree is not necessary.

Keep in mind that although these jobs don't require a degree, they do often require on-the-job training, technical education, or in some cases, a training certification. Be sure to plan accordingly and best of luck with your future career planning!
