What are the best colleges for theatre education?

I'm really passionate about theatre and considering pursuing it in college. Does anyone know which colleges have strong programs in theatre education? I'd love recommendations on where I should apply based on their reputation and opportunities.

Sure, there are several schools known for their outstanding theatre programs which offer a solid foundation in broad theatrical skills and also provide specialized learning opportunities in education.

1. Carnegie Mellon University (CMU): CMU's School of Drama is renowned for its comprehensive theatre program. The school offers a BFA in Drama with a concentration in Music Theatre, in addition to options for concentrations in Acting, Design, Production Technology and Management, and Directing.

2. New York University (NYU): NYU's Tisch School of the Arts has a distinguished Drama program that gives students a broad knowledge of theatre history, theory, literature, and a range of performance methods. It's also in the heart of New York City, which is undeniably one of the best places to study theatre.

3. The Juilliard School: Known for its prestige and selectivity, Juilliard offers rigorous conservatory training in theatre, combining the tradition of classical theatre with innovative performance techniques.

4. Northwestern University: Northwestern's School of Communication features a Theatre major that allows students to sub-specialize in theatre education, depending on their interests.

5. University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA): UNCSA offers ambitious students a BFA in Drama with rigorous conservatory training and professional connections.

Remember, though, choosing a college should be about more than just the program. You should also consider the overall school environment, location, financial aid offerings, and other factors to ensure it's the right fit for you. Finally, don't forget to gauge your chances of admission and apply to a range of reach, target, and safety schools. Good luck in your college search!
