Which colleges are best for nursing in Texas?

I'm thinking about becoming a nurse and want to stay in Texas for college. Does anyone know which Texas schools have the best nursing programs? Any advice on the application process for these schools would also be great.

There are indeed several excellent nursing programs available in Texas. Selecting a good one mainly depends on your specific needs and aspirations, but here are a few well-regarded nursing schools in the region:

1. The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin): UT Austin's School of Nursing is highly-ranked and provides a diverse array of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs with opportunities for clinical experiences and research. It also offers a Fast-Track program allowing students to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in just 15 months.

2. Texas A&M University: The Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Nursing offers BSN and RN-BSN programs. Their graduates tend to have high pass rates for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), which is a plus.

3. Baylor University (Louise Herrington School of Nursing): Baylor offers an excellent and very competitive BSN program that prepares students for professional nursing. They also offer a "FastBacc" track, an accelerated 12-month program leading to the BSN.

4. The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (Cizik School of Nursing): This school offers traditional and accelerated BSN programs, with high NCLEX pass rates and a strong emphasis on clinical experience as well as research.

Application processes vary by school, but you'll usually need to complete an application to the university first. Many of these programs require prerequisite courses before applying to the nursing program, so be sure to check each school's specific requirements.

In general, for admission to nursing programs, colleges look at high school grades, standardized test scores, your high school coursework (sciences like biology and chemistry are often important), and potentially even some direct healthcare experience. Lastly, remember that a strong personal essay expressing your motivation for becoming a nurse can help you stand out in the selection process.

Best of luck on your nursing school search and application process! You're setting out on an exciting journey towards a highly rewarding career.
