Strong college programs for pre-dentistry?

I'm planning on going into dentistry and am looking for colleges with strong pre-dentistry programs. What should I be considering when looking at schools for pre-dentistry, and which ones are highly recommended?

When considering colleges for a pre-dentistry track, focus on a few aspects:

1. Science Programs: Look for schools with strong biology and chemistry departments, as these will be at the core of your curriculum. The quality of these programs can contribute to your academic preparation for dental school.

2. Pre-health Advising: Some schools have specific pre-health advising departments that can provide guidance as you prepare for dental school. They may help with everything from course selection and understanding prerequisites to preparing for the Dental Admission Test (DAT).

3. Research Opportunities: Dental schools like to see candidates who have taken the initiative to delve into scientific research. Find out about the types of research opportunities available for undergraduate students.

4. Shadowing/Internship Opportunities: Check if the college has connections with local dental practices or dental schools for shadowing or internship experiences. Practical exposure gives you a better understanding of the profession and can strengthen your application to dental school.

5. Predental Clubs: Some campuses have predental or pre-health clubs that can provide networking, volunteer opportunities, and additional advising.

A few colleges known for their strong pre-health/pre-dentistry tracks include University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Florida, University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), and University of Michigan. However, always remember, the "best" college will also be one that fits you personally – socially, financially, and geographically.
