Considering future in athletic training colleges?

I've been thinking about pursuing a career in athletic training and I'm researching colleges with great programs. What are some colleges known for their athletic training curriculum, and what should I look for in a good program?

Great to hear that you're interested in athletic training! Some colleges known for their strong athletic training programs include the University of Michigan (UMich), University of Texas (UT Austin), and Pennsylvania State University (Penn State). Each has been recognized for its comprehensive curriculum, hands-on learning opportunities, and successful graduate placement rates.

In a good program, one of the key elements is accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Schools that carry this accreditation meet the higher educational standards consistent with the athletic training profession - make sure to confirm the accreditation status of any program you are considering.

Secondarily, it's important to look for programs that offer practical, hands-on experiences. This may include internships, clinical rotations, or opportunities to work with athletic teams at the college. These experiences can be crucial in gaining the skills and knowledge needed for this field.

Lastly, consider the success of program graduates. Programs often publish their graduate placement rates, showing how many of their students found work in the field within a certain timeframe of graduation, which can shed light on the program's success in preparing students for the career. Additionally, the institution's pass rate on the Board of Certification (BOC) exam, which is a required certification for athletic trainers, can be very indicative of the quality of education provided.

Remember, choosing the right school isn't just about rankings or reputation. You want it to be a place where you feel comfortable and supported, so it's always a good idea to visit campuses, speak to faculty and current students in the program, and learn as much as you can about the community and culture. Good luck with your search!
