Best University in Washington DC for Political Science?

I'm passionate about political science and thinking about studying in Washington DC. Which university has the strongest political science program there? I've heard Georgetown and GWU are good, but I'm not sure which one is better.

Both Georgetown University and George Washington University (GWU) have strong political science departments, each with its own unique strengths.

Georgetown has a renowned School of Foreign Service, and political science majors might majored in "Government" instead. The faculty includes leaders in their fields, professors have wide-ranging expertise in various subfields, and the campus's proximity to the hub of U.S. political power provides unparalleled opportunities for internships and experiential learning.

On the other hand, GWU's political science department is also noteworthy. Famous for its focus on political management, international affairs, and public policy, GWU also benefits from its location in D.C., which allows students to engage with policy-makers, NGOs, and other influential organizations in Domestic and International Politics.

It's also worth noting that American University (AU), another D.C.-based institution, also has a solid political science program, particularly if you're interested in areas such as human rights and social justice.

When deciding which university is "better," consider other factors too. Think about the culture of the university, the kinds of extra-curricular activities available, and whether you prefer the size of one school over the other. Each of these schools will offer a unique experience beyond just academics, and it's important to think about which best aligns with your personal goals and interests. So be sure to visit (in-person or virtually), and reach out to current students or alumni to get a better sense of these aspects.
