How competitive is the acceptance rate at Cal Poly Tech?

I'm planning to apply to Cal Poly Tech and I want to understand how competitive it is. Does anyone have information on its acceptance rate? If you've applied, how difficult was it for you to get in?

Cal Poly, technically known as California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is known for its competitive admission process. Recent data indicates that the acceptance rate is usually around 28-30%, which characterizes it as a somewhat selective institution. Please note that the acceptance rate can fluctuate depending on the year and the number of applicants.

To boost your chances, you'll want to ensure that your academic and extracurricular profiles align well with what the university typically expects of its applicants. Cal Poly takes into account your GPA, coursework rigor, extracurricular involvement, and (typically) standardized test scores, although as of the 2024-2025 application cycle, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo is test-blind and will not consider SAT or ACT scores.

Remember also that acceptance rates can vary across different programs/majors within the university since some programs might be more popular and therefore more competitive. You might want to consider broadly how your profile matches up against the typical admitted students for the major to which you're applying.

It'd be a good idea to research the specific admission requirements for the program you're interested in, as well as utilize resources to help you make your application as strong as it can be. Good luck with your application!
