Exploring high school vocational jobs

I'm trying to figure out what vocational job options exist for high schoolers. I'd like something hands-on but not sure where to start looking. Any suggestions on jobs or resources to explore would be appreciated!

It's wonderful to hear that you're interested in exploring vocational options. A vocational job often refers to work that requires specialized skills or training, and many of these can certainly be hands-on. Here are a few vocational fields you might want to consider:

1. Trade Professions: These include plumbers, electricians, carpenters, and mechanics. These professionals often start their training in high school or right after, and usually require completing an apprentice program or attending a trade school.

2. Healthcare Careers: Becoming an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or a Pharmacy Technician are just a few options in healthcare. Some high schools offer CTE (Career and Technical Education) programs that can start your training in these fields.

3. Culinary Arts: If you love cooking or baking, consider exploring a career in the culinary arts. Some high schools have culinary programs, and there are also culinary schools you can attend after high school.

4. Information Technology (IT): If you're interested in technology, consider exploring careers in IT. Many tech companies provide certification programs that can replace or supplement a traditional college degree.

As for resources to explore these jobs, you might want to check out websites like the Bureau of Labor Statistics or Appily, which provide detailed career profiles including the necessary training and job outlook for a wide range of professions. Additionally, if your school offers a CTE program, you can speak with the coordinator to learn more about the programs available. Lastly, consider job shadowing or interning to get first-hand experiences in the fields you're interested in. By doing so, you can gauge your passion and aptitude for different vocations. Good luck!
