How do I find job openings for high school students?

I'm hoping to get some work experience while I'm still in high school. Where is the best place to look for job openings suited for students? Any tips for applying?

There are quite a few resources out there for high school students looking for job opportunities. One great place to start is within your school's counseling or career center, as they often have postings from local businesses looking to hire students. In addition, check out your local community boards in places like the library or community centers for any job postings.

Online platforms are also abundant and helpful. Websites like Indeed.com, Glassdoor, SimplyHired, and the app, SnagAJob, often have part-time job postings and you can set filters for positions that require minimal work experience. LinkedIn also advertises part-time roles and may allow you to network with professionals in your area of interest.

As for application tips, be sure to tailor your resume and cover letters to each job you apply for. Highlight any relevant experience, even if it's unpaid or voluntary work you've done in the past. Be sure to include any extracurricular activities that can showcase leadership and teamwork skills, as employers value these traits. Skills like communication, time management, and adaptability are highly valuable in the job market, so don’t be shy about showing off these qualities.

Last but not least, always follow up after submitting your application. A simple email or call can sometimes make the difference, as it shows you're proactive and truly interested. And of course, prepare before any interviews. Research common interview questions, know the company, and always have a thoughtful question or two to ask them. Good luck with your job hunt!
