What are the most common majors studied in the United States?

I'm starting to think about what I want to major in when I head to college. Does anyone know what the most popular majors are in the US right now? I'm curious to see if my interests align with any of them.

I'm glad to see you're exploring your options! It's important to find a major that aligns with your interests, but it can also be helpful to note popular fields of study. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, as of current data, the most popular majors studied in the United States are as follows:

1. Business: Business Administration and Management tend to be one of the top choices amongst undergraduates due to its broad applicability in various fields.

2. Health Professions and Related Programs: The healthcare field remains evergreen, due to the constant demand for healthcare professionals. This includes majors like Nursing, Health Administration, and Pre-Medical Studies.

3. Social Sciences and History: These majors provide students with a broad understanding of societal structures and human behavior, which can open doors to a wide range of careers.

4. Psychology: Due to its broad applicability in fields such as healthcare, social work, education, and business, psychology remains a common choice for students.

5. Biological and Biomedical Sciences: As technology and research methods advance, there's a growing interest in these subjects. This includes majors such as Biology, Biochemistry, or Biomedical Engineering.

6. Engineering: Various branches of engineering, like Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Science, have always been popular due to the diverse career opportunities they offer.

Remember, these popular majors are not necessarily the 'best' majors. The best major for you will depend on your interests, strengths, and career goals. It's a good idea to research potential careers tied to your major, discuss options with your counselor, and talk to professionals in your fields of interest if possible. Always pursue what truly appeals to you, even if it isn't in the most popular list!
