Best school for genetics in the U.S.?

I'm thinking about studying genetics in college and wondering which schools in the United States have the best programs. I'm interested in both research opportunities and top-notch faculty. Any recommendations or experiences you can share?

There are numerous great schools in the US for studying genetics with ample research opportunities and excellent faculty.

Johns Hopkins University is one that stands out. It's known for its strong programs in the biological and life sciences and offers a major in Molecular and Cellular Biology that presents a unique opportunity to study genetics in-depth. It also has extensive research opportunities, including the Undergraduate Research Symposium, where students can present their original research.

Stanford University also has a distinguished Genetics program, housed under its Department of Biology. It's well known for research, and Stanford's proximity to Silicon Valley offers opportunities for partnerships with innovative biotech companies.

University of California, Berkeley is noted for its strength in biological sciences, including genetics. It offers both a Genetics and Plant Biology major and an Integrative Biology major, which includes a focus area in Human Biology and Health Sciences that covers genetics.

There's also The University of Wisconsin-Madison's Genetics program within its College of Agricultural & Life Sciences. As one of the first genetics departments in the country, it has a long-standing reputation for cutting-edge research.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) definitely deserves a mention as well. Through its biology department, MIT offers a concentration in Genetics, Genomics, and Development, providing a strong basis for understanding the field.

And of course, Harvard University's Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology which offers a concentration in Molecular and Cellular Biology with a focus on Genetics.

These are all highly competitive programs and offer robust educations in genetics. It's worth looking at each program's specific courses, faculty, and research opportunities to see which program would be the best fit for you. Be aware that admission to these programs is quite competitive, so you should prepare a strong application highlighting your interest in genetics, as well as your academic and extracurricular efforts in the sciences.
