What's it like to study computer science in the United States?

I'm thinking about pursuing computer science in the US after high school. Can anyone share what the experience is like? Are there certain universities that stand out or specific programs I should look into?

Studying computer science in the United States can be a truly remarkable experience. American universities are renowned for their strong computer science programs, with many leading tech innovations emerging from their research programs. Computer Science as a major often covers a breadth of areas including algorithms, data structures, computer architecture, software development, and even areas like artificial intelligence and data science.

Universities like Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, Harvard University, and the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) are typically regarded as some of the top institutions for computer science in the US. These places are especially notable for their strong ties to industry, rigorous coursework, and innovative research opportunities. Another outstanding school to consider is Carnegie Mellon University, internationally recognized for its School of Computer Science.

As far as specific programs go, many of these universities offer hands-on experiential learning opportunities such as internships, co-op programs, and capstone projects. For instance, Stanford allows undergraduates to explore research through its Research Experience for Undergraduates program, and UC Berkeley's Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department offers a competitive honors program, HKN, focused on community service, teamwork, and devotion to the field.
