I'm thinking about majoring in neuroscience and I'm aiming for a public university to keep costs down. Which public schools in the US are known for having strong undergraduate neuroscience programs?

Certainly, there's a variety of excellent public universities known for their strong neuroscience programs.

1. University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley): UC Berkeley offers a Cognitive Neuroscience major that provides a deep understanding of the neural mechanisms underlying cognition and behavior.

2. University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA): UCLA has a superb neuroscience program and also offers a great deal of research opportunities for undergraduates.

3. University of Michigan (UMich): Not only does UMich have an excellent neuroscience program, but it also boasts a large campus with numerous laboratory facilities dedicated to neuroscience research.

4. University of Washington (UW): UW offers a well-respected program in neuroscience, with a focus on providing students with a broad background in the biological, physical, and mathematical sciences.

5. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC Chapel Hill): The Neuroscience program at UNC Chapel Hill provides a strong foundation in basic neuroscience with an emphasis on study and research in molecular and cellular neuroscience.

It's important to remember that it will also come down to what type of environment and college experience you're looking for. Make sure you visit each school (virtually or in person) and learn as much as you can about their offerings and campus life to find the best fit for you.
