Should I include my high school on my resume for a professional job?

I'm updating my resume for some professional job opportunities but I'm unsure whether to include my high school education, given that I haven't graduated college yet. Does it look unprofessional to still list my high school?

While there's no definitive rule about whether to include your high school on your resume, especially if you haven't graduated from college yet, it's generally considered unnecessary. Ideally, your resume should highlight your most relevant and recent experiences, skills, and accomplishments.

As you gain more experience and more education (for example, once you've completed a significant amount of college coursework), your high school accomplishments and activities will become less relevant. They may eventually not add much value to your resume, particularly for a professional job application.

Consider what's most relevant and beneficial to the jobs you're applying to. If you had significant achievements, leadership roles, or specific skills acquired in high school that ties directly to the job you're applying for, you might want to include them. For instance, if you led a club that aligns with the professional job you're applying to, or perhaps you learned relevant technical skills, those could be worthwhile to include.

However, if your high school experience doesn't add value specifically to the jobs you're targeting, and you have more recent or relevant experiences, you might choose to omit it. For example, if your college coursework is in the field you're applying to, focusing on that would be more beneficial.

Remember, your resume is your marketing tool. It should present the most important and relevant information about you. Think strategically about what to include and always tailor your resume to each job you're applying for.
