Searching for hotel jobs as a high school graduate

I just graduated from high school and I'm interested in working in the hospitality industry. Are hotels hiring high school grads right now, and what kind of positions might be available to someone like me?

Entering the hospitality industry right after high school is certainly an achievable goal. Generally, the hospitality sector is always in need of people with the right attributes - patience, a friendly demeanor, able to deal with unexpected challenges, among others.

In regards to hotels hiring high school graduates, positions would mostly be at the entry-level. Common roles you might consider include front desk clerk, bellhop, housekeeping staff, or event coordinator assistant. More specialized roles like chefs or hotel managers usually require specialized education and experience. That being said, starting in an entry-level role can give you a sense of the daily operations and could assist in deciding what you would like to specialize in, if you choose to advance your career in hospitality.

It's worth noting that, due to the nature of the hospitality industry, you'll often be working in shifts, so be prepared to possibly work during holidays, weekends, or at night. As you gain experience and prove your abilities, you can work your way up to higher positions. Some people have started at the front desk and ended up in management!
