What's it like working seasonal winter jobs in Colorado?

I'm thinking of getting a seasonal job in Colorado for the winter. I’m interested in anything related to skiing or working at state parks. What jobs are available, and what's the experience like? Any particular positions I should consider?

There are a multitude of seasonal winter jobs you could consider in Colorado, particularly in the areas of skiing and state parks. Here are a few suggestions:

1. Ski Instructor: Many ski resorts require ski instructors for their guests. This position generally requires you to be a strong skier and have excellent people skills as you'll be teaching and interacting with people of all ages and skill levels.

2. Ski Lift Operator: Lift operators assist skiers getting on and off the lifts, monitor the equipment, and ensure the safety of all guests. This job allows you to enjoy being out on the mountain without needing expert ski skills.

3. Park Ranger: State parks in Colorado still need staff in the winter months. Though there might be fewer positions available compared to summer, it’s worth looking into. It can be a unique experience with different challenges compared to warmer seasons.

4. Resort Jobs: Ski resorts hire staff for a range of roles beyond the slopes. Jobs can range from food service and retail, to guest services, housekeeping, and maintenance.

These jobs often offer perks such as free or discounted ski passes, which can be a big bonus if you plan to hit the slopes in your free time. However, keep in mind winter in Colorado can be quite cold and snowy, so you'll need to be comfortable working in those conditions or at least travel in them.

Regarding the experience, much of it depends on your role and the specific resort or park at which you're working. A job in one of Colorado’s ski towns can also give you a chance to meet and interact with people from all over the world, as well as other seasonal workers who may have similar interests. Be aware that resort towns can get busy during peak holiday times and be prepared for the potential of long hours or challenging work conditions during these times.

It's recommended to start monitoring job boards and resort websites as early as late summer or early fall, as these positions can be competitive and can fill up quickly. Good luck with your search!
