What is West Point summer military training like?

I'm interested in attending West Point and heard about the summer military training they do. What exactly does the training involve and how rigorous is it? Is it similar to boot camp?

West Point's summer military training, also known as Cadet Basic Training (CBT), is definitely a challenging and demanding program. It's designed to transform individuals from students into future military leaders through a rigorous, multidimensional regimen.

The program begins shortly after high school graduation and is split into two phases, each about three weeks long. You'll experience physical conditioning through activities like coordinated marching, swimming, and distance running. You'll also undertake field training exercises that include land navigation, marksmanship, mountaineering, and hand-to-hand combat techniques, among others. Learning how to operate in a tactical environment is a key part of the curriculum, and this includes understanding the basics of military maneuver and tactics.

In addition to physical training, CBT also emphasizes the leadership and ethical dimensions of being a military officer. During these approximately six weeks, you'll be introduced to the seven Army Values and the Cadet Creed, both of which guide West Point's philosophy and community.

While it's not exactly a boot camp, CBT does share some similarities.
