Best UCSD college for Marine Biology?

I'm hoping to major in marine biology at UCSD. Can anyone share insights on which UCSD college (like Muir, Revelle, etc.) would be best for this major in terms of classes, locations, or other factors?

All undergraduate students at UCSD, regardless of which college they're in, have access to the same majors and courses - the primary difference between the colleges is the general education (GE) requirements and student life elements.

However, there might be some strategic advantages in certain colleges. For example, Revelle College has a strong emphasis on science and mathematics, so if you are excited about those subjects, you might find Revelle's GE requirements aligned with your interests. It also tends to be favored by students intending to pursue medicine, but its rigorous curriculum can be beneficial to marine biology students as well.

On another hand, Muir College is known for its loose general education requirements, which means you might have more flexibility to take courses related to your major or explore other areas of interest. Plus, it's centrally located, which could be a bonus.

Keep in mind, though, that all students, regardless of college, have access to the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, which is where many Marine Biology classes are held. The institution is renowned for its ocean and earth science research, which would be a valuable resource for your intended major in Marine Biology.

Bottom line, while your experience, course load, and some aspects of student life can vary by college, your access to marine biology courses, resources, and opportunities won't be largely impacted by your choice. Instead, consider which college's philosophy, values, GE requirements, and other offerings align best with your own interests and goals.
