Top Colleges for Graphic Arts?

I'm planning to study graphic arts and I'm trying to find colleges with strong programs in the field. Does anyone have recommendations for schools known for their graphic arts degrees or good internship opportunities?

One of the best institutions known for its program in graphic arts is Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), widely regarded as one of the top art schools in the U.S. It has a highly competitive and challenging program that emphasizes both theory and practical applications in various forms of visual communication.

Another school you might want to consider is California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). They have a distinguished Graphic Design program which focuses on the practical and experiential aspects of the field, allowing students plenty of opportunities for internships and real-world assignments.

On the east coast, Parsons School of Design in New York City, a part of The New School, has an excellent and competitive graphic design program with an emphasis on cultural relevance and design theory.

For those looking to consider public universities, University of Cincinnati's College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) offers a well-respected Graphic Communication Design program, known for their co-op program which requires students to work in their field of study alternating semesters, starting in their Sophomore year, giving students a unique mix of academic and practical experience.

Lastly, Carnegie Mellon University's School of Design offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Design with the ability to focus on Graphic or Communication Design. Their approach is human-centered, meaning students not only learn how to make visually appealing designs, but also how to solve real-world issues through design.

Each of these schools offers strong programs with opportunities for internships—both from the in-school programs and being located in or near major cities—so remember to see which one aligns best with your goals and preferences. Good luck!
