What are the best colleges for studying martial arts?

I'm really interested in martial arts and was wondering if there are any colleges that offer strong programs in martial arts studies. Ideally, I'm looking for a place where I can learn both practically and theoretically. Any suggestions?

Sure, there can be a wide range of opportunities for martial arts enthusiasts at college level due to their sports and extracurricular programs. While few colleges offer majors in martial arts, there are several with classes or clubs. It's more about looking for colleges that have strong martial arts clubs or teams if the martial arts program isn't part of the academic curriculum.

For instance, universities like University of Michigan, Harvard University, and Stanford University are known for their active martial arts clubs. These clubs often offer practical training sessions for various forms of martial arts - Karate, Aikido, Taekwondo, Judo, etc. You'll get to practice and learn new techniques from skilled mentors and peers.

That being said, if you are extremely serious about studying martial arts theoretically or considering a career, you might want to check out the Asian Studies or Physical Education programs in some universities. They may offer a few classes related to martial arts history or philosophy. Other colleges with broader interdisciplinary studies programs may also permit you to customize your degree with a focus on martial arts studies.

Remember, each institution may differ in the martial arts forms they offer. Therefore, whenever you are considering a school, check their website or contact them to determine what forms of martial arts they provide in their programs.
