Best liberal arts colleges for investment banking?

I'm considering a career in investment banking and exploring liberal arts colleges. Are there schools known for strong finance programs or connections to the banking industry? Would love insights on where to apply.

When considering liberal arts colleges for a career in investment banking, it's important to look not only at the academic quality of the business or economics department but also at the school's proximity to financial centers and the strength of its alumni network in the finance sector.

Williams College, Middlebury College, and Amherst College are typically well-regarded in this respect. Colgate has an especially strong reputation within investment banking circles. Its location in New York State provides opportunities to connect with finance professionals, and it offers pertinent courses like Financial Market Regulation.

Williams College in Massachusetts is notable for its economics department and produces a significant number of graduates who work in finance. They also offer a career discovery program in finance to expose students to this field early.

Moreover, Middlebury College in Vermont has a strong undergraduate program in international politics and economics, which could provide a strong foundation for a career in international investment banking.

Amherst, Massachusetts, is home to Amherst College, another liberal arts college with a strong reputation in economics. Not being in the immediate vicinity of major finance hubs like New York do not seem to have affected the quality of opportunities Amherst students get in Investment Banking.

Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania is also known for its economics and finance program and could be an excellent choice, given its proximity to New York and other eastern financial centers.

Last but not least, don't discount the possibility of attending a liberal arts college abroad, such as the London School Economics, where you can study in close proximity to a major financial hub.

All of these schools offer robust career service departments and have alumni networks within the investment banking industry that can help facilitate internships and job placements. Remember, it's not just what you learn, but also who you know and the experiences you gain during your time in college that can significantly shape your path towards an investment banking career.
