What are the best Minnesota colleges for a nursing degree?

I'm planning to pursue a nursing degree and would love to study in Minnesota. Which colleges should I consider for the best nursing programs in the state?

Minnesota is actually home to a number of excellent colleges for studying nursing. Here are a few that consistently rank highly:

1. University of Minnesota - Twin Cities: Their School of Nursing offers a traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), a Master of Nursing (MN) for those who already have a bachelor's degree in another field, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). For students interested in research and teaching roles, they also have a highly-regarded Ph.D. in Nursing program.

2. St. Catherine University: The Department of Nursing offers a wide range of nursing degrees, including a BSN, a Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing for non-nursing undergraduates, Master of Science in Nursing-Entry Level (MSN-EL) for those without any prior nursing degree, and a DNP. It's a woman-centered university, but the graduate programs accept both men and women.

3. Minnesota State University, Mankato: Their College of Allied Health and Nursing provides a BSN, an RN to BSN for registered nurses, and several MSN options including a Family Nurse Practitioner track and a Nurse Educator track. They also offer a post-master's DNP.

4. Augsburg University: The Nursing program at Augsburg offers an RN to BSN for registered nurses, an MSN in Transcultural Nursing Leadership, and a DNP. One unique feature is their focus on transcultural nursing, which prepares students to work with diverse populations.

Similarly, other prestigious nursing schools in Minnesota include Winona State University, Bemidji State University, and Concordia College.

When making your decision, I would recommend looking beyond just the overall program reputation. Consider factors like the NCLEX pass rate (a measure of how well the program prepares students for the national licensure exam), the clinical experiences offered, the availability of modern simulation labs, faculty-student ratio and the level of faculty support, financial aid, and graduate employment rates. And, of course, the fit with your personal career goals and learning style.
