Which colleges have the best undergrad programs for computer science?

I'm planning to major in computer science and want to apply to schools with the best undergraduate programs in this field. Any recommendations on colleges known for their strong CS programs?

There are many schools renowned for their computer science (CS) programs, but here are a few leaders in the field:

1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is usually one of the top choices for CS. Its close proximity to the tech hub in Boston and its emphasis on hands-on learning provide additional benefits outside of its impressive core curriculum.

2. Stanford University is located right next to Silicon Valley, which provides countless internship and work opportunities with tech giants and innovative startups alike. Its CS department is well-known for producing leaders in the industry.

3. Carnegie Mellon University has an incredibly strong Computer Science Department known for research and innovation. Its School of Computer Science offers five different primary majors, allowing for specialization within the field.

4. University of California, Berkeley's CS program is consistently highly ranked, and the school's location gives students access to the vibrant tech scene in the Bay Area.

5. University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is also notable for its strong CS program which is integrated within its College of Engineering, it even offers unique sub-specialties like CS + Astronomy or CS + Anthropology.

6. Harvard University, though best known for the humanities and social sciences, also boasts a strong computer science program. It offers the ability to easily combine CS with another concentration (joint major), for students interested in interdisciplinary studies.

Additionally, while these are all very selective schools, many state schools also have strong CS programs. For example, the University of Washington in Seattle has a reputable program and is located in a city that is a growing tech hub. Also, The University of Texas at Austin is quickly emerging as a leading player in tech and innovation and offers a solid CS program.

Remember, choosing a school is not just about rankings. Consider factors such as location, size, cost, and culture to make sure the school also fits your personal preferences and career goals. Good luck in your college search!
