Best Pennsylvania colleges for a biology degree?

I'm looking into colleges in Pennsylvania and want to focus on biology. Which PA schools are known for excellent biology programs that offer good research and internship opportunities?

Pennsylvania has several universities renowned for their biology programs, both public and private.

The University of Pennsylvania (often referred to as Penn) has one of the top-ranked biology departments in the country. It's particularly lauded for its biochemistry and molecular biology discipline. Their undergraduate biology program incorporates a broad spectrum of sub-fields along with hands-on research. Plus, their established connections might help with internships.

Carnegie Mellon University is also an excellent option for studying biology. The unique interdisciplinary approach to the subject combines aspects of computational biology, biophysics, and molecular biology. The undergraduate research opportunities here are also commendable.

Pennsylvania State University (commonly Penn State) has a robust biology program, with students often going on to lead in agricultural, environmental, medical, and academic fields. They also emphasize undergraduate research and have numerous labs and facilities available for students.

The University of Pittsburgh has a strong biology program with a variety of research areas including ecology and evolution, molecular biology, and neuroscience. They have also partnered with the UPMC medical network to provide a vast range of internships.

Lastly, Swarthmore College, a small liberal arts school, also has a strong biology program. Despite its size, it offers a broad biology curriculum and numerous opportunities for research. Intimate class sizes allow more personalized attention which can be ideal for in-depth understanding.

Again, choosing the "right" college depends a lot on your personal preferences, long-term goals, and the specific areas of biology you're interested in. All the schools mentioned above can provide excellent preparation for a career in biology, but you might prefer one over others based on factors like size, location, availability of specific courses, and so on. Happy college hunting!
