Where to study CAD drafting and design?

I've got a huge interest in CAD drafting and design and want to find out which colleges are well-known for strong programs in this area. Would anyone have suggestions or relevant experiences to share?

Looking at schools with strong programs in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Drawing and Design, there are a few worth noting.

Michigan Technological University is known for its strong programs in the mechanical arts, especially its 3D Design courses, which include CAD.

Purdue University has an excellent College of Technology with a robust program in CAD, as does the Rochester Institute of Technology, which offers a specific major in Mechanical Engineering Technology.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) offers programs where CAD is used extensively, although it might not have a specific major for it.

California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo is another great place for this. They have an acclaimed College of Engineering which includes Design and Manufacturing Engineering where you can get plenty of exposure to CAD.

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, while lesser-known, tends to rank highly for undergraduate engineering programs and emphasizes hands-on projects, where CAD skills would be used extensively.

Keep in mind that having a strong and broad base in engineering concepts can be just as important, if not more so, than specializing in CAD early on.

Remember, CAD may be learned not just in class but also through co-op experiences, internships, or extracurricular projects such as club robotics teams or in a maker space. Experiences like these often prove fruitful as they provide real-world exposure and the possibility to employ your CAD skills practically.

Good luck in your college search!
