What is the best college for art and design?

I'm a junior exploring art and design programs and want to know which colleges are highly regarded for this field. I'm considering schools both for their programs and campus culture. Any insights on where to start or top recommendations?

That's a great question! Art and design programs can vary greatly depending on what areas of art and design you're interested in, as some schools excel in certain areas more than others.

School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) continually ranks as one of the top art schools not only in the United States but in the world as well. The school focuses solely on art and design and provides a wide range of areas to study from painting and drawing to fashion design and art and technology studies.

Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), located in Providence, is also recognized for its exceptional programs in art and design. Especially revered are its Illustration, Graphic Design, and Industrial Design programs.

If you're interested in the west coast, California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) is a renown institution, founded by Walt Disney himself. The campus is dedicated to fostering a community of artists and offers many programs ranging from Film/Video and Dance to Art and Music.

Lastly, for a traditional university setting with a fantastic art program, consider University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and Yale University. UCLA's School of the Arts and Architecture boasts very reputable Design and Media Arts programs while Yale University's School of Art is consistently well-regarded, particularly in Photography and Graphic Design.

It’s important to remember that choosing a college should be about much more than just rankings. You'll want to consider factors like the specific curriculum of the programs, faculty, campus culture, location, and resources available to art students. Try to visit these schools or at least explore their websites to get a sense of which environment feels most conducive to your growth as an artist and designer. Best of luck in your search!
