Top high school clubs to join for college applications?

I'm wondering which high school clubs I should join that will look good on my college applications. I want to choose ones that show leadership and initiative. Any suggestions on the best clubs?

Clubs are a great way to show your interests and take on leadership roles. Keep in mind you should choose those that align with your interests and career goals instead of ones you think colleges want to see.

If you're interested in business or finance, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) or DECA can be great options. They offer numerous leadership positions and competition opportunities.

For students interested in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics, clubs like the Science Olympiad, Math League, or Robotics Club can be valuable. You get a chance to participate in competitions and make significant contributions, especially if you even consider leading a team project or becoming a club officer.

Volunteer organizations like Key Club or Interact Club are also solid choices, demonstrating a commitment to community service and providing opportunities for leadership.

If you're into writing or language arts, consider joining or starting a school newspaper, literary magazine, debate team, or a chapter of the National English Honor Society.

Similarly, Model United Nations (MUN) and Junior State of America (JSA) can be impressive to admissions officers if you're planning on pursuing politics, international relations, or law. These clubs often have leadership roles and simulate real-world negotiation and diplomacy scenarios.

Remember, the club itself is not as important as what you do in it. Use club membership to demonstrate your commitment, leadership, and the impact you've had. Admissions officers value depth of involvement over breadth, so it's more valuable to be heavily involved in a few clubs than lightly involved in many.
