Where to Study Computer Science and Video Game Design?

I'm looking for colleges that excel in both computer science and video game design. It's important to me to get a well-rounded education in both areas. Any recommendations?

Absolutely! If you're interested in both computer science and video game design, it's important to look for universities that excel in both areas.

1) University of Southern California (USC): Known for having one of the best video game design programs in the country according to the Princeton Review, USC also offers an excellent Computer Science major. USC even has a Computer Science (Games) program designed specifically for students who want to develop video games.

2) Carnegie Mellon University (CMU): CMU offers a Bachelor of Computer Science and Arts, where you can study computer science in the School of Computer Science, and you can focus on design in the College of Fine Arts. Additionally, CMU has its Entertainment Technology Center, a place for interdisciplinary research that frequently involves video game design.

3) University of Utah: The University of Utah offers an undergraduate program in Games through their School of Computing and the Entertainment Arts & Engineering (EAE) program. The EAE program is considered one of the best in the nation for video game design.

4) Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT): MIT has The MIT Game Lab which brings together scholars, creators, and technologies to teach, conduct research, and develop new approaches to applied game design and construction.

5) New York University (NYU): NYU's Tandon School of Engineering has a well-regarded Computer Science program, while its Tisch School of the Arts offers a sought-after BFA in Game Design.

Remember, while these programs are highly-regarded, it's essential that they also fit your personal/cultural preferences, financial needs and career goals. Consider visiting, doing virtual tours, and speaking to current students/alumni to gauge the best fit for you. Good luck with your college search!
