Popular majors at Duke University?

I'm interested in applying to Duke and wondering about the most popular majors there. Does choosing one of these majors usually mean larger class sizes or harder admissions? Also, how are the resources for these programs?

Duke University has a wide variety of popular majors, but according to the most recent data, the most popular undergraduate majors are: Public Policy Analysis, Computer Science, Economics, and Biology/Biological Sciences.

Public Policy Analysis is one of the unique strengths of Duke, housed in the Sanford School of Public Policy. Computer Science is another prominent field at Duke, with a strong emphasis on research and innovation. Economics often appeals to a broad range of students due to its applicability in numerous sectors, and the Biology/Biological Sciences program ties closely with Duke's strong pre-med track and reputation for medical research.

Choosing a popular major does not necessarily mean you'll encounter larger class sizes. While introductory classes tend to be larger, as you progress and specialize, classes often become smaller and more intimate. As for admissions, Duke practices a holistic review process where academic interest is just one factor. While declaring a major on your application could demonstrate your focus and interest, it's not likely to significantly make admission harder or easier.

As for resources, Duke has a wealth of them. For example, the Public Policy Analysis major offers experiential learning initiatives and independent study opportunities. The Computer Science and Biology departments offer several research opportunities with faculty members, internships, and strong alumni networks. Also, Duke's Economics department gives students the chance to engage in research and independent studies. It's part of Duke's commitment to ensure students can explore their areas of interest deeply.
