Where do most students live at Duke University?

For anyone familiar with Duke University, where do most students end up living? Do they stay on campus all four years, or is it more common to move off campus? I want to know what to expect if I attend.

At Duke University, the housing policy is that all undergraduate students are required to live on campus for their first three years. This policy is designed to help foster a sense of community among students, facilitate interactions with peers and faculty, and take advantage of Duke's extensive residential programming.

For the first two years, students live in either East or West Campus. Freshmen live on East Campus, which is exclusively for first-year students, and the area has its own dining hall, gym, library, and spaces for studying and socializing. From sophomore year onwards, students move to West or Central Campus.

Beginning in their junior year, many students join one of the university’s selective living groups—these could be Greek organizations or other special-interest housing groups, like those focused on community service, language learning, or cultural engagement. These groups often have dedicated housing on West or Central Campus.

Finally, in their senior year, while some students do choose to continue living on campus, it's also quite common for students to move off-campus. Some popular off-campus areas include Ninth Street, Trinity Park, and Trinity Heights. The specifics of where you live in your senior year can vary greatly based on personal preference, group affiliations, and other factors.

Remember, while this is the general framework, individual experiences can vary based on a number of factors such as personal preferences and involvement in specific groups or living-learning communities.
