Hardest university majors to tackle?

As I'm starting to think about my college major, I'm curious about which ones are considered the hardest. I want to challenge myself, but I also like knowing what I'm getting into.

The level of difficulty for any major can depend on your aptitude and interests. That said, some fields are widely considered challenging due to their extensive course load, complex subject matter, and/or demanding schedules.

1. Engineering: Topping many lists of toughest undergrad programs is engineering—whether it's mechanical, chemical, or electrical. These programs often include a heavy load of math and science coursework, including calculus, physics, and chemistry. Also, engineering students frequently undertake demanding lab and design projects.

2. Physical Sciences: Physical science majors like physics, chemistry, and geology are typically rigorous. These programs often involve heavy coursework in math and complex scientific concepts, along with lab work.

3. Life Sciences: Life sciences like biochemistry, neuroscience, and genetics are known to be strenuous with heavy biology, chemistry, and physics coursework, and often require a lot of memorization.

4. Pre-Med: Pre-med is not a major per se, but a track. However, pre-med students usually choose challenging majors like biochemistry or neuroscience, plus they have to meet all the pre-med course requirements which include advanced science and math classes.

5. Computer Science: This major entails understanding complex algorithms, learning various coding languages, and grasping advanced computing concepts. It takes a mind molded for problem-solving and cognitive flexibility.

6. Mathematics and Statistics: These majors entail a deep understanding of complex mathematical theories as well as advanced problem-solving skills.

Remember, a major being "hard" doesn't make it off-limits. If you're passionate about a topic and ready to work, don't shy away from these demanding fields. Often, these programs are known for their strong communities and supportive faculty because they recognize the rigorousness of the studies. It's also a plus if these align with your career goals, as these fields are known for their high earning potential and strong job prospects.
