I'm graduating soon and pretty interested in construction management, but I'm not looking to go to college right away. Are there entry-level jobs for high school grads in this field? Wondering what positions I might be able to apply for straight out of high school.

Although a degree in construction management can often open up more advanced job opportunities, there are a number of entry-level positions you might consider as a high school graduate interested in the construction industry. These roles are often hands-on and practical, allowing you to gain valuable on-the-job experience.

1. Construction Laborer: As the name suggests, construction laborers work on construction sites performing a variety of tasks from cleaning and preparing sites, to digging trenches or compacting earth, to operating hand and power tools. This role can be physically demanding but can provide valuable insight into the workings of a construction site.

2. Carpentry or masonry apprenticeships: Apprenticeships can be a great way to learn a trade while working and earning. These roles provide one-on-one training under the guidance of an experienced professional, ensuring you develop the specific skills needed in the construction industry.

3. Junior Estimator: Junior estimators work closely with construction managers to estimate the cost of projects. While some junior estimator positions may require a degree, others may simply require a high school diploma and strong math skills.

4. Construction Assistant or Clerk: Much like an office assistant, a construction assistant or clerk often provides administrative support to a construction team, potentially handling tasks like scheduling, filing, handling correspondence, and more. This role can offer insight into the administrative and management side of construction.

Remember that any entry-level position can provide a stepping stone to more advanced roles in construction management.
