Best Pennsylvania colleges for a biology major?

I'm figuring out where to apply, and I’m particularly interested in colleges located in Pennsylvania. Which schools are known for having standout biology programs? I’m also interested in research and extracurricular activities related to biology.

Pennsylvania is home to a number of colleges with exceptional biology programs. A standout school that comes to mind is the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn). UPenn's biology program is noted for its comprehensive coursework and research-oriented approach. Many students participate in research as early as their freshman year, and there are numerous biology-related academic and extracurricular opportunities to take advantage of.

Another noteworthy institution in Pennsylvania is Swarthmore College, a liberal arts college recognized for its top-tier natural sciences programs, including biology. Their biology program encourages hands-on experimentation and investigation through laboratory research.

Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), particularly strong in science and research, offers an array of research opportunities in biology for undergraduates as well. They also provide a diverse array of elective biology courses allowing students to tailor their studies to their interest.

Another strong option is Bucknell University, where biology is one of the most popular majors. They have well-equipped laboratories, and their curriculum is designed to balance in-depth coursework with independent research.

Haverford College is a small liberal arts college that also boasts a strong biology program. Undergraduates often participate in collaborative research with faculty and have access to various research facilities.

My best advice would be to visit each school's website to learn more about their biology program, faculty, research opportunities, etc., and see what aligns best with your educational goals.
