What are some popular jobs for high school students?

I'm a high school junior and I'm looking to get a job to start saving up for college. What are some popular jobs that high schoolers usually take? Any suggestions would be super helpful, especially if they work well with school schedules!

Happy to provide some suggestions for jobs that can work well for high school students and can also help you save up for college!

Firstly, retail can be a good option. Positions like cashier, sales associate, or stock person could work well, and are usually flexible with schedules. Stores often need extra help on evenings and weekends which can fit nicely outside of school hours.

Another popular choice is the food industry. Jobs as a waiter/waitress, barista, or fast food worker can provide good opportunities for tips in addition to your wage, and also often have shifts available outside of regular school hours.

If you enjoy working with children, you might consider babysitting or tutoring. Many parents are looking for afterschool help, so this could fit nicely with your schedule. As a bonus, tutoring can also help reinforce your own understanding in certain subjects.

Lastly, if you're interested in outdoor work and have a license, lifeguarding or working in landscape maintenance can be seasonal options, especially during the summer. Keep in mind, though, that jobs like these may require training or certification.

Remember, while a job can offer valuable experience and the opportunity to save money, it also requires a commitment of your time. Be sure to consider your current academic and extracurricular workload before deciding to take on a job. It's important to find a balance that works well for you.
