What universities offer a strong connection to nature?

Being in nature is really important to me. Are there any universities that are known for their natural surroundings or have lots of green space? I'm looking for schools where I can enjoy outdoor activities easily.

In the United States, there are several universities with substantial green spaces or are located in or near natural attractions. Each, of course, has its own academic strengths and campus culture, so you'll want to take those into account as well.

1. University of Colorado Boulder: Surrounded by beautiful mountains and near a variety of hiking and biking trails, Boulder is known for its outdoor activities and natural beauty.

2. University of Vermont: Offering a stunning view of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack mountains, UVM is well-regarded for its connections to outdoor activities and environmental studies.

3. Stanford University: The campus is situated near the California coastline, mountains, and redwood forests, providing ample opportunities for exploration.

4. University of Washington: Located in Seattle, the campus is near various hiking and biking trails and only a short drive away from Mount Rainier and the Olympic National Forest.

5. Middlebury College: Located in Vermont, it's surrounded by the Green Mountains and Adirondacks. The campus also has its own ski slope and a vast trail network.

6. Dartmouth College: Located in Hanover, New Hampshire, it's near the Appalachian trail and offers a wide variety of outdoor programs through Dartmouth Outdoors Club.

Remember, a connection to nature doesn't just mean being close to outdoor destinations—it's also about how the college incorporates nature into student life. Many of these colleges offer outdoor clubs or classes, emphasizing sustainability and environmental preservation. So when researching these schools, pay attention to their specific programs and initiatives as well.
