What are the best places for seasonal work as a high schooler?

I'm a junior looking to get some work experience and earn money over the winter break and summer. Does anyone have recommendations on the best places to find seasonal employment that are high school friendly?

Great on you for taking the initiative to find a job! Seasonal work is a fantastic way to earn some money and gain work experience, especially as a high school student. Here are some great places to consider for seasonal employment that are typically friendly to newer, younger workers:

1. Local Retail Stores: During festive seasons and the summer, local retailers often hire additional help. You can check websites or walk into local stores and ask for job applications. Clothing stores, department stores, and electronic stores are good options.

2. Ice Cream Shops and Food Chains: These places are especially booming during the summer. Ice cream parlors, fast-food restaurants, and pizza places are always on the lookout for added help.

3. Amusement Parks and Recreational Centers: If you live near one, these can be ideal places to look favorably upon young workers especially during the summer when they're the busiest.

4. Local Farms and Farm Stands: They often employ seasonal workers to help with crops and sell products during busy months.

5. Babysitting or Tutoring: If a regular job isn't appealing to you, this is another avenue. Many families require babysitting services, especially during holiday seasons. If you're good with certain subjects, you can also offer tutoring sessions to younger students.

6. Lifeguarding: This depends on having the appropriate certification and of course, a nearby place to lifeguard (like a community pool), but lifeguard positions are often open to high school students.

7. Camp Counselor: Summer camps often hire high school students as camp counselors or assistants. If you enjoy working with kids and being outdoors, this could be a great fit.

Remember, the key to landing a job is to be proactive, patient and persistently follow up on the applications you have given out. It's also crucial to maintain a positive attitude and be prepared to learn new things. Good luck with your job search!
