Best paying jobs for those with just a high school degree?

Once I graduate high school, what are some jobs I can get that offer good pay without needing a college degree? I'm not sure about my plans for college, so I'd like to explore my options.

There are quite a few jobs you can consider that do not require a college degree but still offer good pay. Here are a few examples, but remember that specific salary figures can vary significantly based on factors such as your location, competencies, and experience.

1. Postal Service Workers — They can earn a decent salary, and the U.S. Postal Service often has job openings that require a high school degree, with on-the-job training provided.

2. Power Plant Operators — These workers control and maintain the machines that generate electric power. The catch is that you might have to work in rotating shifts as power plants need to be monitored 24/7.

3. Real Estate Brokers — If you have an eye for properties and are good at sales, becoming a Real Estate Broker can be lucrative. After completing a state-approved education program and gaining a license, brokers can help clients buy, sell, and rent properties. Note that some startup capital is usually needed, and the income is largely commission-based, meaning it might take time and hard work to see significant returns.

4. Police and Detective Work — Police officers and detectives are typically required to have only a high school diploma, though some departments require a few years of college coursework or a college degree. It's a demanding job but can be rewarding and is generally well-compensated.

5. Web Developers — A career in web development can also be pursued with a high school degree, as long as you have the necessary coding skills. There are many online resources and community colleges that offer courses to help you develop these skills.

6. Commercial Pilots — Unlike airline pilots, commercial pilots often only need a high school diploma, along with a commercial pilot's license from the Federal Aviation Administration. They may fly charter flights, rescue operations, firefighting missions, or aerial photography missions.

Remember, while these jobs don’t require a college degree, each requires some level of training or certification; technical skill or physical ability; and some, like real estate and web development, also need an aptitude or interest in the field. Always consider what fits your skills and interests before choosing a career path.
