What is enlisted military life really like?

I've been considering enlisting after high school, but I'd love to know what daily life is like for enlisted personnel. Are the schedules super strict, or is there some freedom? Any insight into social life would be awesome too!

You may live on base, either in barracks or in housing for those with families. Various on-base amenities are often available such as gyms, shops, and recreational centers that offer opportunities for leisure activities and socializing.
