Where do most students live at the University of Florida?

I'm trying to get a sense of the student lifestyle at UF. Do most students live on campus, or do they prefer off-campus housing? Are there particular areas or neighborhoods that are more popular among students?

At the University of Florida (UF), students have the option to live either on-campus or off-campus. Freshman students are required to live on-campus in one of the numerous residence halls unless they have a valid exemption. These residence halls offer a variety of living configurations, from typical dormitory-style rooms to suite-style accommodations. Living on campus often provides a more inclusive experience for first-year students, as it can foster a sense of community and make it easier to engage with campus resources and events.

After the first year, many students choose to live off-campus. Gainesville, the city in which UF is located, has a wide array of housing options popular among UF students. You might hear about several neighborhoods such as Midtown, Downtown, and Archer Road, which are popular due to their proximity to campus and array of dining and shopping options. Midtown is especially close to the football stadium and many student services buildings, which can be convenient.

Depending on personal preferences and lifestyle choices, some students prefer apartment living, while others opt for rented houses or condos. Keep in mind, that living off-campus requires considerations like transportation, scheduling extra time to get to class, and meal preparation. Additionally, the choice between on and off-campus living often hinges on affordability versus convenience, individual needs, and personal preference.

It's always good to research what fits your needs and preferences the best. Don't hesitate to take advantage of university resources, including current students and housing services, to get a feel for what might work best for you.
