What should I expect at the MEPS processing station for military enlistment?

I'm planning to enlist in the military and will soon be going to the MEPS station for processing. Can anyone share their experience or what I should prepare for during that visit?

Preparing for your Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) visit can feel daunting, but knowing what to expect can help alleviate some stress. The MEPS is where you will take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test, undergo medical examinations, and enlist in the U.S. military.

1. ASVAB: The ASVAB test measures your abilities in different areas such as math, science, and vocabulary. It's used to determine your eligibility for enlistment and to guide your military career path. Make sure to study for this test with the various prep materials available online or through your recruiter.

2. Medical Examination: You will undergo a thorough medical examination. This involves a questionnaire about your medical history, hearing and vision tests, blood and urine tests, blood pressure checks, and checks for physical deformities or abnormalities. Additionally, females will have a pregnancy test. Make sure you're honest about your medical history, as misleading or wrong information can lead to disqualification or problems down the line.

3. Enlistment: Once you've passed the ASVAB and medical exam, you will speak with a career counselor to discuss job opportunities based on your ASVAB results, needs of the service, and personal preferences. After you choose a job, you will then take the enlistment oath.

4. Documents: Bring your necessary documents such as your social security card, birth certificate, high school diploma or GED, and a valid ID. You'll need these for various parts of the process. Any failure to produce these documents could result in delays or even disqualification.

5. Professionalism: Lastly, remember that the MEPS is a professional environment. Dress appropriately and behave respectfully to everyone you meet.

Remember, everyone's experience at the MEPS is unique, depending on the specific requirements of the branch they're applying to and their circumstances. Take everything one step at a time, relax, and keep a positive attitude.
