Which UCSD college is best for a biology major?

I'm considering UC San Diego for a biology major, but I'm confused about which of its colleges is the best fit. Does anyone have recommendations or experiences they could share? I'm interested in marine biology if that helps!

Choosing the best college at UC San Diego for a Biology major is less about the specific subject you’re interested in and more about your personal preferences and lifestyle. This is because the core academic programs, like Biology, do not vary from college to college. All biology lectures, labs, etc., will be identical no matter which college a student belongs to. Instead, each college has its general education (GE) requirements, residential layout, and student culture.

That being said, Revelle College might be a good choice for someone interested in Biology, as it provides a robust foundation in natural science and mathematics. The GE requirements at Revelle are quite rigorous with a strong focus on a well-rounded education, which can be beneficial for students pursuing science majors.

For a student interested in Marine Biology specifically, Eleanor Roosevelt College’s (ERC) study abroad programs may be appealing. Their "Making of the Modern World" program has study abroad opportunities which could include marine biology research in places like Australia or Costa Rica, for example.

The choice should depend on which GE requirements you find most attractive and achievable, the type of living environment you prefer, and essentially, how you want to shape your undergraduate experience outside of your major. Try to pick a college that aligns best with your academic goals, learning style, and values.
